Project
number one was to create a useful electronic portfolio (e-portfolio) for the
course. Using the web authoring program called Nvu I created a homepage with
pictures and links. I picked a color scheme that I felt was easy on the viewer’s
eyes and went well with my pictures. I made links to the SUNY Cortland homepage
as well as links to my About Me, Projects, and Resources pages. It took me a
while to understand how to use the program, but once I got it I had fun
creating my e-portfolio. I learned to add pictures to make it more interesting,
and I learned how to make links to make the page more useful and complex. I
never thought I would ever be able to create my own website. I thought I wasn’t
computer savvy enough. However, Nvu was an easy program to learn and I created
a page that I am very proud of. I also learned the process of creating HTMLs
and publishing my work so that it can be accessed by others. I enjoyed making
this page and I think I will use these skills in the future as an educator.
Having a class website would be a good paperless way of organization. I could
have useful resource links for my students to use when doing homework and other
assignments. I would post due dates and other important things on the page so
they could use it as a reference. If I wanted to improve my web design skills I
could even set up a message board so they could help each other and I could
help them even when we are outside of the classroom.
