Teaching History

My teaching career has been extraordinarily rich and varied.  I have worked as an elementary school music teacher in Brooklyn, an adjunct lecturer of English at Brooklyn College, a teacher of ESL in Chinatown NY, and as a teacher of all subjects at The Candor Alternative School: a non-traditional high school which I helped to found in 2003.

                                           Teaching Philosophy

At the core of my teaching philosophy is the belief that all human beings are naturally curious and productive.  It is my job as a teacher to kindle the pre-existing intellectual flames in the minds of young adults, and to ignite a lifetime’s passion for learning.   All students are capable of achieving success, but this success is contingent on how well teachers are able to structure their environments to meet the learning needs of each student.  In my ten years of teaching, I have learned to differentiate my instruction in order to help students reach their own unique potentials.  I believe that the classroom should be a workspace, where students have an opportunity to collaborate on projects with relevant applications.  By doing “real” work in the classroom, using a variety of technologies on the Read/Write Web., my students are seldom bored, and generate work that they are both interested in and proud of.
