Project 2: Elementary School Website Design



The purpose of this project is to create a Website for a School that we made up.  To create this website it was necessary to create three web pages for the website.  I created these pages in NVU using my previous knowledge from Project #1. My group decided that we would create a School Website which would include links to the school’s faculty, lunch menu, and after school programs.  I opened NVU and created a Project 2 page and set up a link that would connect me to our school’s homepage. Then I created my web pages.  After I saved these pages I used horizontal navigation to set up my links.  I also included my original horizontal navigation to these pages as well.  Before going any further I hit the browser button to see if my links worked.  Then I filled the pages up with the content of our school.  My group decided to use the school from the Simpsons and we included some of the cast into our school’s faculty.  We also used images of a school lunch menu as well as images of various sport activities, school books, an art pallet, and a music symbol for our afterschool programs.  I took all of the images from Google; I searched images and then saved the images that I wanted in my 314 folder.   Then I went back to NVU and inserted the images into the appropriate web pages.  I also made sure to include the website that I got the images from.   Once the content of the School’s website was done, I opened WS_FTP and published the pages that I created.  Once I published them I opened internet explorer and typed in the URL of my website to make sure that the publishing was successful.  I think that this project will help facilitate kids learning in my classroom teaching because this project made me practice a lot with using the NVU and WS_FTP programs.  I think that I can use my knowledge and skills with NVU and WS_FTP to set up learning activities that my students can access on the internet and play with.  I think that my students would love to go on a website that I created to do their homework or look up information that I would put up for them rather than reading a text.  I also can put links up that they go to do something interactive like an online quiz or something like that which would help them learn in my classroom.
