The purpose of this project is to learn how to create puzzles that students can use enjoy. I used many programs to complete this project. To begin with, I went to NVU and created and saved a projects three page. Then I went to puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com and navigated through the website to create my puzzle. Before doing anything I had to create my word list which the website provides. I picked words that go along with the Solar System. Then I picked which kind of puzzle I wanted to make. I chose a word search. Next, I copied and pasted the words into the selected box and then put a title on the puzzle. After doing this, I clicked the gray button “Create My Puzzle.” Once I clicked this button, my puzzle showed up on my screen. Then I copied and pasted my word search into Microsoft Word. I changed the size of the font around so that my word search fitted on one page. I also cited the website from where I made the puzzle. I saved my work as a document (docx) in Microsoft Word. Then I opened up Paint and cropped my word search so that it looked visually appealing. I saved this as an image in paint. After doing all of this I went back to NVU and inserted the image into the projects three page. In addition, I linked the image of my word search to the document that I saved in Microsoft Word. Once this was all done I went to WS_FTP and published my work. This project will help facilitate learning in my classroom because I think the children will really enjoy the puzzles that I now know how to make and while they are having fun they will learn. I think that these puzzles will be wonderful for spelling and vocabulary lessons for the children to do and serve as reinforcements.
