The website is a custom-built wiki page, that allows students, faculty, and staff to edit all pages, and to add new ones. Although the idea of having students and faculty to able to edit and take charge of designing the website is great, but not quite effective. After 5 minutes of browsing through the webpages I couldn’t help but noticed the headache I got from all the colors, movement and clutter all over the site. The site is pretty functional, despite the eye sore and isn’t organized well. I do think there is too much content in the website or at least there must be a better way to organize everything that’s included. There is so much content that in some pages you can find more than one navigation bar. For instance, the website includes a list of all the graduate students enlisted in the university alongside their field of discipline and year.
To improve the web site I have decided to give it a clean simple and sophisticated look. I figured simplicity was the best way to tackle a website that has so much content. I do believe though that the content and the amount of it, in the original site should be reconsidered. I kept the content simple and straight forward in the redesign. I have also included the Yale logo and incorporated a slide show that includes a breakdown of all the discipline offered and if clicked, you would be redirected to a course breakdown of said discipline.
