Conjugating

Foreign Schools		 Just like in English, a verb can change forms depending on who is performing the action.  Let's us the verb "to walk" as an example.  We can say "I walk" or "she walks."  We change the form by adding a "s" when we say "she walks."

Here are the rules for conjugating -ar verbs in Spanish:
  1. Drop the "ar" ending of the infinitive
  2. Add the appropriate ending that agrees with the subject pronoun
Each subject pronoun has a specific verb ending.  Use the chart below to review the conjugation endings.

yo  -o nosoros  -amos
tú  -as vosotros  -áis
usted / él / ella  -a ustedes /ellos / ellas  -an

Let's use the verb "hablar."    Depending on who is doing the action, they verb will use the above ending.
  • Yo hablo por teléfono.
  • Tú hablas con los amigos.
  • Ella habla en la clase.
  • Nosotros hablamos mucho.
  • Vosotros habláis con el profesor.
  • Ellos hablan en la escuela.

Now give it a try.  Congjugate the following verbs according to the subject pronoun.

  1. Tú   los deportes después de la escuela.
  2. Ellas  mucho en la clase de ciencias.
  3. Nosotros  en la clase de música.
  4. Yo en la fiesta.
  5. El chico en el parque.
