2. Describes a physical, mental, or emotional condition or characteristic in the past.

No fui a la fiestas porque estaba enferma.

3. Refers to repeated or habitual actiona in the past.

Siempre iba a la playa los domingos.

4. Describes or sets the stage in the past.

Hacía frio y llovía cuando nos acostamos.

5. Expresses time in the past

Eran las once cuando llegamos.

6. Is used in indirect discourse.

Ella dijo que no sabía nadar.

7. Describes age in the past.

Tenía cinco anos.
1. Reports past actions or events that the speaker views as finished and completed, regardless of how long they lasted.

Anoche ellos jugaron al baloncesto.

2. Sums up a condition or a physical or mental state, viewed as completed.
