The subjunctive is not a tense; rather, it is a mood.

far, we have studied tenses in the indicative mood. The
indicative mood is used to express facual information, certainty and
objectivity.
Example: I am going to the mall.
The boy is short.

subjectivity. It is used when the speaker is expressing a
subjective opinion. (subjective: existing in the mind)
