Recognize a Proper Noun
In a travel brochure the writer uses many proper nouns as tourist attractions to interest the reader. (For example, famous places, buildings, and people.)  The travel brochure about Verona is filled with proper nouns. Go back and study the words highlighted in yellow.
  • A proper noun has two distinctive features: 
    • 1) it will name a specific person, place, or thing; and 
    • 2) it will begin with a capital letter no matter where it occurs in a sentence.
  • A Noun that does not name a specific person, place, or thing is called a common noun.
    • Determine whether each noun below is a common noun or a proper noun.
    • Then, select the correct spelling of the word."

FEATURE 4
In writing a travel brochure, the author uses descriptive language to describe the place to the reader.  Descriptive adjectives are used to describe people, places, and things in a more in positive and attractive way. Go back and look at the words in bold underline.
