'Plants are shaped by cultivation and men by education. ... Everything we do not have at our birth and which we need when we are grown is given us by education.' -Jean Jacques Rousseau As
John Locke contended in the 17th century, man is born Tabula rasa,
with no innate or built-in mental content; knowledge is built
up gradually from our experiences and sensory perceptions of the outside
world. Therefore, it is our duty to provide students with all of the
knowledge, information, insights, and inspirations that brought us to
into our positions as educators. Though they may not choose the same
path, hopefully they will be well-equipped enough to make their own
choices and succeed throughout they're entire journey. |
