Reflection # 3
In Teaching with Technology
by Simon Hooper and Lloyd P. Rieber there were many great points about
how technology can be an effective teaching tool, but often enough is
not utilized to its fully potential. Technology in the classroom
can help enhance students' education. By having more
technology based lessons in the classroom and attending "how to"
workshops would improve and continue a teachers technology education.
I do not feel that many teachers effectively use
technology in the classroom in the younger grades. Many students
know more about the computer and how to create power points, games,
find reliable sources, and make other teaching materials than most
teachers do. There is a generation gap, and it is difficult to
learn more about computers when you did not have them when you were
growing up. I know that I have learned a lot by trial-and-error
when it comes to computers. To me trial-and-error is the only way
that I can complete technology based projects and remember how to do it
later on when I am faced with a similar situation or project.
Teachers who use technology in the classroom are the
teachers who do attend the "how to" workshops and continually bring
their newly found knowledge into their classroom. Teachers can
also learn from their students too. Students are aware of lots of
technology that is new and up and coming, it's the teachers
responsiblity to keep up with their students. Students are very
intelligent and learning from them will allow them to feel like they
are the teacher and can bring the student based learning more into the
classroom.
I will be using technology in my classroom and will
learn from my students. I know that I learn a lot from my brother
who is only three years younger than I am. He is very intellegent
when it comes to handling computers. He is patient and also uses
trial-and-error to find the answer he wants. I want to bring in
computers, use power points, utilize the internet, use all of Microsoft
Office programs, and my new knowledge of website creating and
uploading. By having this new information, I can make my school
better, with an informational and effective school website or
newsletter.
In my High School, the younger teachers were the
ones to use technology in our classroom and expeced their students to
do the same. Power Points, and the internet were brought into a
few of my classes. I had a computer class that showed us how to
use the internet in an affective way and to find reliable resources.
In a few of my classes our projects were based fully on our
ability to use technology effectively. We had to create a video
for extra credit, and use power points to complete a research project.
Technology is very important in the classroom.
It creates a better lesson, encourages students to use
technology, and can create a more student based curriculum.
