Briefly skim the Wikipedia entry on CONFLICT.

The Catcher in the Rye has one main conflict: growing up and leaving childhood behind.  As we have discussed in class, Holden is afraid to grow up and lose the innocence that childhood possesses.  He is caught in a limbo because he knows that he has to grow up, yet he doesn’t want to.

TASK TWO:

- For this task you will have to create a new section on your Google Docs labeled Task #2. There will be a part A as well as part B for this task.

a) To exercise your knowledge of this novel you will have to write a short paragraph of the conflict of this novel. I have given you an overview of this at the top of the page, yet I want you to incorporate specific examples of the conflict that you see in the novel. (i.e. times in the novel where you see this conflict present).

b) Next you will either need to sympathize with Holden or not. I want you to free write about a time when you have been stuck between two feelings in your life. You may use the feelings that Holden feels about growing up and staying in his youth. Don’t hold back!
