Recently in my new home I have noticed how the trees keep disappearing. Deforestation is when forested areas are converted into non-forested areas. People come into the forest and cut down trees that are homes to many different species such as exotic birds, butterflies and insects. A statistic showed that in Brazil alone the forest is vanishing at a rate of 20,000 miles per year. To date more than 1/5 of the Amazon Rainforest has been destroyed.
