Project #1: Initial Publication of your ePortfolio
For
this project, we were asked to publish our own web page. I was a
little nervous beginning this project because I don't have much
experience with computers or new technology, espeecially as far as
publication goes. It was far simpler than I had imagined- with
Nvu, it is easy to construct a webpage as great as the one we first
imagine in our heads. Using Nvu, I learned how to add photos and
text to my page, how to change the font type and size, and how to
create links in order to move from page to page or even to an entirely
different website. When I finished the layout of my homepage, I
used WS_FTP as a publishing tool. I found this program very
aggravating at times because it continuously signed off after only a
few moments. This made it difficult to work in a very timely
manner. However, I did also find the program very useful. I
liked that publishing our work didn't mean it was final- we could
adjust and add to our pages as we wished, then simply publish the newer
information under the same name as the first. I learned the
importance of publishing everything I wanted to show up, including
photos. If not, information could be lost or links could be
broken. Programs like these may be harder for elementary students
to follow, but simple techniques like navigating from page to page and
changing and adding text could be taught to the class as a whole and
aid children in the complexities of the ever-changing technological
world in education.
