What
does it say in the Constitution??? Two Clauses of the First Amendment concern the relationship of the government to religion: 1. Free Exercise Clause: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" 2. Establishment Clause: Prohibits the government from endorsing a national religion and financially supporting it. What about religion in public schools? "Public school students may have the right to pray on their own in a non-disruptive fashion and schools may teach about religion as a part of objective instruction, but public schools must not sponsor religious worship" Information adapted from: http://www.allabouthistory.org/separation-of-church-and-state.htm http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/conlaw/estabinto.htm |
