Also, they already know a few nouns in the poem such as "mère, enfant, genou, yeux", as well as the infinitive form of the verbs "désirer" and "se passer". Most important, they know that in French like in English, nouns take an "s" at the plural form. The poem "Les Hiboux" includes seven nouns (all seven exceptions) that end with "ou" and that take an "x" to mark the plural form.
