Remember when I was telling you what my dad taught me, about the biome I live in? Well, don't you worry, my dad taught me more than just the word "biome", I understand the biome I live in! It's a Temperate Forest Biome, which some people call a Deciduous Forest Biome. A biome is one of the world's major ecological communities, classified by climate and native plants and animals. In my biome, there are four seasons. Spring time brings new life to the trees and plants, warm temperatures, and rain which help everything to grow. Summer is hot, and everything is green. Fall is cool. The trees are beginning to change colors, such as red, yellow, and bright orange. Winter months are extremely cold and all the trees have lost their leaves. The average temperature around here, as well as in other Temperate Forest Biomes, is around 50 º F and we normally have anywhere from 30-60 inches of rainfall a year. We have many layers of plant life. There are the small plants such as shrubs, moss, ferns, and lichens, which grow quietly underneath the tall trees. The animals in our biome come in all shapes and sizes, from a variety of insects to birds and mammals, the number of species is almost endless. |
