Goal 1: Reflection
This
semester I have done multiple assignments that show I have developed an
understanding of mathematical concepts covered in elementary school.
The assignment attached is one example that shows I have satisfied this
course goal.
The Multi digit multiplication lesson plan I wrote
is for fourth grade curriculum. It gives students a different way of
looking at multiplying two or three digit numbers by one digit numbers.
This lesson shows students what place value means and what its purpose
in multiplication is.
The lesson taught me a concept I did not know prior
to creating this lesson. I have always used the standard method for
multiplying and never understood why other methods were taught. This
method, I believe should be taught to every student when they are first
learning multi digit multiplication. The reason for this is because it
provides meaning behind the concept, so that student's understand the
purpose of multiplication.
Overall, this assignment proves that I have met the
first course goal. I clearly understand the purpose of multiplication
as a mathematical topic in elementary school curriculum. By
creating this lesson I also understand that it is important to apply
concepts to students, many different ways, because not every student
learns the same way.
