The Outsiders fits into the genre, Realistic Fiction.

Task 5: Read this article on wikibooks.org, mainly the Introduction and the Criteria for Realistic Fiction.  Make a check list for the 8 criterion for a good realistic fiction novel and tell me if you think The Outsiders meets those criterion.  Why or why not?

Task 6: Read the Interview with Hinton in the back of your book.  How was Hinton inspired to write The Outsiders?  How does this make it a realistic fiction novel?  Do you think that the event that triggered Hinton’s inspiration could happen to kids today?
