On the fourth Thursday of November, Americans celebrate a holiday called Thanksgiving. The name Thanksgiving literally means "the giving of thanks." On this day, Americans remember all the things that they are thankful for. Thanksgiving is a holiday that honors the early settlers (the Pilgrims) and their harvest feast in the New World. This feast was called the First Thanksgiving. Today, American families get together to celebrate this day with a feast of their own! The feast typically includes mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, vegetables, pumpkin pie, and turkey! |
