What is a Past Tense Verb?
- *Remember:* Verbs are a part of speech that states an action or expresses a state of being.
- In fairy tales, the writers use a type of verb called "past tense verbs." They usually use this type of verb because fairytales took place in the past.
- Sometimes, past tense verbs are formed by taking the word and adding "ed" to the end.
- If a word ends in "e". just a "d" is added.
- If a word ends in "y", the "y" is dropped and an "ied" is added (example: tried).
- There are more irregular past tense verbs, but today we are just adding the "ed" ending to our verbs.
