WHAT'S COOKIN'

INFORMATION FOR DRYDEN’S SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM

As technology has reached your child’s school lunch program, we feel it is necessary to introduce to you some of your options as a parent/guardian.  Some of the information has remained the same.   You will find the application for free and reduce meals has not changed, but other options have.  If your child is just beginning in kindergarten or has transferred to our district from another, we hope you will find this information helpful.

APPLICATIONS for free and reduce meals

Applications will be included in the August bulletin that is mailed to every household within the district and can also be downloaded directly from the food services website.  Directions are on the reverse side for the applications.  Applications can also be obtained from every school office and at every cash register in your child’s cafeteria during the school year.  It is important that the applications are filled out completely.  Incomplete applications will be returned to you and will delay your child’s benefits.  Benefits for your child will only be available when the application is fully processed through the School Lunch Office.

Please fill out one(1) application per household.  Include all members of the household regardless of their relationship to you.  Please include your child(ren)’s school and teacher if it is known.  When declaring income, please indicate weekly, monthly, or yearly.  And please sign your application as clear as possible.

You may mail in your application or send it in to school with your child.  You can personally deliver your completed application to the Main Office located in your child’s school.

If you had an application on file with Dryden’s School Lunch Office from the previous school year, your child(ren)  will be able to use their status as it was.  As of September 30th, you must have a new application on file with the School Lunch Office or New York State Dept of Ed. requires your benefits to be cut off.  Please send your application in as soon as possible to avoid any problems with your benefits.

You may reapply for benefits anytime during the school year with the exception of any pending audits.

 SOCIAL SERVICE LETTERS

Please send in your social service direct certification letters as soon as possible.  Please indicate the school and grade of the children that appear on the letter.

I.D. CARDS

The School Lunch Office will issue a meal card with your child’s name and teacher on it only if:

*Your child is eligible for meal benefits or you choose to prepay for meals.  Teachers will hold onto your child’s card and distribute them to the child prior to the meal service.  Your child will hand the card to the cashier who will scan the card and keep it for later delivery back to the teacher.  Your child’s transaction will remain totally confidential.

*Your child will be notified if their balance is low.  If your child is at the cashier during lunch service and does not have enough money on their account, they will be allowed to charge.  A child may charge up to 5 times before a note will be sent home to the parent.  No charging is permitted at breakfast

*If your child’s card is lost, the School Lunch Office will replace it. (Elementary Only)
