Human impact in Morocco is severe. People used to live a semi-nomadic lifestyle here, moving from place to place several times during the year. But now they tend to settle in one place for long periods of time. During the winters, these people must gather large amounts of firewood for heating, and their livestock often graze the forest to get enough food to survive. This has added to the depletion of some natural resources and land degradation/desertification. Another problem caused from the increased population of people in one remote area is the contamination of the water supplies. The water has become increasingly contaminated by raw sewage and oil polloution. This has caused many health concerns for the people, animals and plants who utilize this water.
