The '07 - '08 Season got off to a "shattering" start for the Orange

The Post Standard:

Syracuse University held a Midnight Madness-style event for just the second time in school history and the first time in 13 years on Friday night at Manley Field House.

And Arinze Onuaku made sure the occasion was a memorable one.

Onuaku, a 6-foot-9, 258-pound center, shattered a backboard with a dunk off a lob pass from Paul Harris just a few minutes into the Orange's intra-squad scrimmage. - Mike Waters

Junior Guard Andy Rautins is out for the 2007/2008 Season

Andy Rautins is expected to be out for the 2007-08 season after injuring his left knee during Canada's loss to Brazil in the Tournament of the Americas on Wednesday night in Las Vegas. Head coach Jim Boeheim, who is an assistant on Team USA, said Thursday that he was "99 percent sure" that Rautins, had torn his ACL. Rautins played two minutes for Team Canada on Thursday night. His father, Leo, is the head coach.

"It's too bad, he worked so hard this summer, it's really devastating for him," said Boeheim by phone from Las Vegas, where the U.S. was preparing to play the U.S. Virgin Islands in pool play. "The good news is that he hasn't redshirted yet," Boeheim said. "It's usually six to nine months recovery so the timing is there for him to be perfectly healthy for [2008-09]." ESPN.com

Andy Rautins was an integral part of the 2006-2007 Orange Basketball team emerging as the Orange's most dangerous 3 point threat. His shooting touch and defensive prowess at the top of the zone will surely be missed this year, but in his abscence the incoming freshmen will be given every opportunity to succeed.
