  My Biome:

A biome is an entire community of living organisms in a single major ecological area.  Biomes are usually characterized by the popular forms of plants and animals that live there.  An alpine tundra is an example of a biome.  Alpine tundras are located all over the world, on the tops of mountains where trees cannot even grow.  The tundra is a very deserted place.  It is characterized by extremely low temperatures year round, with a very short growing season.  Since the climate is harsh, there are not alot of animals and plants that can survive in the tundra.  Some examples of animals that do live there are elk, pikas, and mountain goats.  An interesting fact about tundras is that dead organic material serves as a source for nutrients in the soil.
