THE GRAND CANYON

After visiting the Grand Canyon, it is definitely not hard to believe
that it is one of the seven wonders of the world.
It is not uncommon to be speechless as you stand before
such an amazing structure of nature.

The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, about 18 miles wide, and 5000 feet deep.
Several factors are responsible for the Grand Canyon we see today.
Erosion caused by water and ice, wind, the Colorado River,
and the continental drift have played a powerful role in its formation.

  CINEMA SOUTHWEST

According to author John A. Murray, the incredibly picturesque Arizona landscape
has been the back drop for an incredible number of movies.
Robber's Roost was the first major motion picture to be produced in AZ in 1923.
Since then, AZ has been the location of many westerns like Blood on the Moon (1948),
Sergeant Rutledge (1960) and romantic dramas like Casablanca (1942).

Robert Mitchum in Blood on the Moon (1948)                                            Constance Towers, Jeffrey Hunter, & Woody Strode
                                                                                                                                                                in Sergeant Rutledge (1960)

NATIVE AMERICAN SOUNDS

Native American music has a mystical sound and style.
The melodies encompass instruments such as drums, rattles, flutes, and whistles.
This particular CD, "Distant Spirits" by Scott August (Cedar Mesa, 2001)
includes some percussion, soft flutes, and guitars harmoniously intertwined with beautiful nature sounds.
The result is a magnificent acoustic appeal to the aesthetic value of the Southwestern journey.
