Project # 5

Word art Acrostic

This Microsoft Word project allowed me to expand my knowledge of creating different word art documents with this program.  I was able to use different types of fonts, word art designs, colors, and horizontal and vertical layouts.  The Word art Acrostic allowed me to incorporate grammar and technology into one assignment.  The acrostic part of this assignment allowed me to use different adjectives that represent my personality and personal characteristics, while following the acrostic format.

Creating an educational handout with a border, shading, or a fill effect

For this Microsoft Word project, I was able to discover new ways for making a plain handout colorful, meaningful, and interesting.  I learned how to place simple or elaborate borders of many sizes and colors around a page, or multiple pages.  I learned how to create a watermark picture in the background of my Microsoft Word document, either filling the full size of the page or less.  I will bring my newly found knowledge of creating a more elaborate Word document to my own schoolwork at the college, assignments, the Education Club, as well as in my classroom.  I will be able to show my students how to "spice" up their own Word document and I will incorporate this into my own handouts sent home or for my students.

Trading Cards

I created New York State facts on trading cards for a fourth grade classroom curriculum.  For this project I used Microsoft Word, tables, Google search engine, New York State: Department of State Kids NY Fact Page, and I also incorporated images to create interesting bullets.  This project has allowed me to get my first look at creating a different form of teaching for my classroom.  These trading cards will help my students reinforce their knowledge in different subjects.  By having this project to do, it showed me how creative I can be and how to create an interesting and fun way to learn new or current information.

Overall Project Evaluation

This project opened my eyes to what Microsoft Word has to offer me and for my classroom.  The Microsoft Word Acrostic project brought together technology and grammar.  By this integration, students will also be able to create other important combinations of subjects to better enforce their learning experiences. The educational handout can be easily brought into the classroom and used.  Sending home important notes to parents with a flashy background will give that piece of paper an "attitude" and may possibly catch a parent’s interest quicker than a plain piece of paper.  The trading cards are very beneficial to students.  They could become an assignment for students to do as an assignment for themselves and their classmates.  As a teacher, trading cards can become a learning center to reinforce information given to students.
I believe that these three projects will be very beneficial in my classroom and for the rest of my college career.  This project opened my technology knowledge and has stimulated my interest to try new aspects of the projects, and integrate my past knowledge to make these projects better.  It was a fun project to do with technology and they are all things that teachers should be using in their classrooms and obviously should be knowledgeable of.
