African Elephants

These African elepahants are grey in color and mostly found in the Savanah. They are the much larger of the African elephants. The males grow to 4 meters(about 13.12 ft) and weigh about 7 tons(about 14,000 lbs).

Loxodonta Africana Cyclotis

These African elephats are a darker grey color and mostly found in the Forest. They are the smaller of the African Elephants. The males grow to about 2.5 meters (about 8 ft) and weigh about 2.7 tons (about 5,950 lb)

Asian Elephants

Elephas Maximus, Maximus

Also called Sri Lankan elephants, they are the largest subspecies reaching a shoulder height of between about 2 and 3.5 meters (about 6.6 and 11.5 ft), and weigh between 2,000 and 5,500 kg (4,400 and 12,100 lb). They have 19 pairs of ribs. Their skin color is darker than the other Asian Elephants. They are larger and have more distinct patches of depigmentation on ears, face, trunk and belly.

Elephas Maximus, Indicus

Also known as Indian Elephants. Indian elephants reach a shoulder height of between about 2 and 3.5 meters (about 6.6 and 11.5 ft), and weigh between 2,000 and 5,000 kg (4,400 and 11,000 lb). They also have 19 pairs of ribs like the Sri lanka elephants. Their skin color is lighter than of maximus with smaller patches of depigmentation, but darker than of sumatranus. Females are usually smaller than males, and have short or no tusks.

Elephas Maxium, Sumatranus

Sumatran elephants reach a shoulder height of between about 2 and 3.2 meters (6.6 and 10.5 ft), and weigh between 2,000 and 4,000 kg (4,400 and 8,800 lb). They have 20 pairs of ribs compared to Sri Lanka elephants and Indian elephants who only have 19 pairs of ribs. Their skin color is lighter than of maximus and indicus with least depigmentation.
