Biome You may be wondering what is a
biome exactly?
Here's the answer! ~ A biome is a region or community that is known by its plants, animals, and climate. Here is some information about plants and animals that will help get you more acquainted with where we live in the Amazon Rainforest! Common Plants: 1) Aerial Roots grow everywhere in the canopy section of the rainforest. Why are they called aerial roots? It's simple! Aerial roots never touch the ground. They hang in mid air off of trees. ![]() 2)
Walking through a rainforest you will see ferns at every turn you make.
Ferns are always green in color, but they can be dark or light. They
can also be very big or very small. You will find them mostly growing
in dark shady places.

One of the most common trees is called the Kapok Tree. This tree serves
as a home for many of the animals that live in the rainforest. Kapok
Trees grow to be very large and branch out like umbrellas.
![]() 4) Flowers bloom year round in the
rainforest. The Periwinkle flower is known for its bright colors. Did
you know that this flower is used as a medicine to treat Leukemia and
Hodgkin's disease?

1) Jaguars are the fastest animals living in the rainforest. They weigh on average between 140 and 220lbs and can grow to be as long as 6ft! They are found roaming through thick forests and swampy areas. If you see a jaguar... don't hurt it! They are on the list of most endangered species! ![]() 2) If you see an animal gliding from
tree to tree, don't worry, it's just a spider monkey. Spider monkey's
live in the upper canopy level of the rainforest and use their long arms
and tails to move and get food. You might see them sleeping high above
the treetops to stay safe from their predators.
![]() 3) Toucans live in the lower parts of
the rainforest and usually nest in tree trunks. They are widely known
for their bright colored beaks that are red, orange, yellow, and lime green. They
love to eat reptiles and birds.

you may see something slithering along. The animal you are seeing is an
anaconda. Anacondas can weight up to 300lbs and be as long as 30ft. The
usually live and hunt in the shallow waters of the forest, feeding on
small animals.
