My life goal is to change the world while creating a positive difference, and being a part of Walmart helps put me on the right path to achieve this. One of the biggest reasons it’s possible is because Walmart is the world’s largest retailer, with remarkable scale and capabilities, which gives me the opportunity to influence decisions that touch people across the entire world.
I was offered a game-changing opportunity to help lead the thought-leadership and development of Walmart’s social insights capability for Global Customer Insights & Analytics, Walmart’s consumer research division. I help lead a cutting-edge team analyzing open source data, such as social media, blogs, forums, mainstream news, video, and more – basically, the Internet.
In terms of moving to the area, I have to admit that I was wary about relocating to Northwest Arkansas at first. For one, it is much smaller than where I came from, but I have definitely grown to love everything it has to offer, especially the diversity of people concentrated here from all over. Lastly, I consider myself a big foodie and was excited to know that the list of local restaurants to explore here is endless. New places are being built all of the time too as this community continues to grow into a major hub for business. This is probably one of the best perks of them all!
Everyone working at Walmart has the ability to make an impact.

I came to Walmart right after business school because of the Marketing leaders I met during my interview process. The juxtaposition of “the world’s largest startup” within the world’s largest company was amazing for someone who wanted to learn and grow quickly. I stay at Walmart because no day is the same – our customer is changing, technology is changing, retail is changing. Walmart is about the freedom and responsibility that you’re expected to assume when you start working here. Good ideas are given room to grow and resources to be supported – there’s no hierarchy in the search for delivering value to our customers. Everyone working at Walmart has the ability to make an impact.
The day I was hired changed my life.

I’ve actually worked for Walmart twice. When I was in high school, I worked at a small Walmart in Ash Flat, AR. I stocked shelves and pushed carts. It was my first job because my dad would no longer give me gas money. I had no idea that store experience would provide such valuable perspective later in life!
I moved to Northwest Arkansas to go to the University of Arkansas, and I couldn’t afford not to work, so I applied for a night clerical job. Luckily, the manager that interviewed me felt I was overqualified for the clerical job. He offered me a full-time auditing job that was similar to what I did in the military. He explained that he could schedule me so I could pursue school. The day I was hired changed my life. It’s no cliché – I’m that hourly associate that worked through the ranks and into management.
I jumped at the chance to make a serious impact on sustainability.

I was working on sustainability in London when I learned about an opportunity to manage global climate and energy topics in Walmart’s energy team. I jumped at the chance to make a serious impact on sustainability! Now I focus on analytics across all areas of Walmart’s global business functions. Northwest Arkansas is simply beautiful, and I love to hike the Ozarks near Eureka Springs. One of my favorite places is the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, one of the few public art libraries in the country. I love walking downtown Bentonville to explore new shops and restaurants, as well as visiting Fayetteville and the Walton Arts Center. There’s a unique mix of a local culture and people from all around the world. Living in Northwest Arkansas is an opportunity to be part of a local community and connect to people with diverse backgrounds and interests.

By working for Walmart, I like to believe that my fellow driver associates and I are dispelling a lot of the old impressions people may have about truck drivers. When people see Walmart trucks rolling down the road, they feel at ease. That’s because we as a company and associates put a tremendous amount of effort into making our fleet safe, reliable and second to none in professionalism.
We go to great lengths to ensure that our rigs are neat, clean, and orderly (NCO). In fact, one of my fellow Road Team members once met a former President of the United States, and he told him that he and his wife always feel safe around Walmart trucks. Being a Road Team member means having pride in our work, pride in our employer and pride in ourselves. Throughout our fleet, you'll find drivers spreading the message of safety in the communities. We visit with automobile drivers young and old, always advancing the mindset of cooperation instead of competition on our nation’s roadways. This attitude extends to our fellow Drivers too. On the road, we’re all co-workers in a sense.
It’s amazing how many aspects of my life are touched and made better by Walmart.

When I think about it, it’s amazing how many aspects of my life are touched and made better by Walmart. I live less than a mile away from my job. I can even see the building where I work looking out my window every day. My husband works here too. The main reason, he says, is because he saw how much I enjoyed my job and working for Walmart that he couldn’t wait to get here too. All three of my children have worked for Walmart as well! My oldest son even got a scholarship to ASU from Walmart.
I have always regretted not getting a college education, and now, with Walmart’s Life-Long Learning program, I’m joining my son in getting one. Walmart is giving me college credit for all the training that I have done while doing my job over the years and earning a living for my family.
When I began working for Walmart, I had no knowledge of computers, and didn’t think I needed one or a cell phone. Now, my job consists of using a PC the majority of the time and keeping in touch with the team by cell phone. I have grown so much and experienced so many wonderful things working here. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future.
I’ve encountered extraordinary coworkers and customers and made lifelong friends.

Having served as a pharmacist, assistant pharmacy manager, pharmacy manager, and interim market director, I have had a very fulfilling career at Walmart. Coming out of school, several companies offered me pharmacy opportunities, but I chose Walmart because of its exceptional reputation for customer service, the company’s stability, and its countless opportunities for career advancement.
One aspect that I may not have considered, but have since found and thoroughly enjoyed, is the family-like environment here at Walmart. I’ve encountered extraordinary coworkers and customers and made lifelong friends that I always look forward to visiting with. I’ve gotten to know entire families, and have seen them grow, graduate, marry, and reach major milestones in life right before my eyes. I consider my role as a Walmart pharmacist as so much more than a healthcare provider. I see myself as a loving sister, friend, daughter, and even granddaughter. It means so much to hear, “I’ve missed seeing you in the store,” or, “Thank you for listening to me today.”
I’ve also been able to be active in the community. With Walmart’s support, I orchestrated and promoted a Diabetes Awareness event statewide helping to diagnose the undiagnosed and help those who are impacted with diabetes. This event was later incorporated into the State Department of Health, where it now targets those counties with the highest rates of diagnosed diabetes cases. I am very grateful and proud that my career has afforded me an opportunity to step out of the box and organize an event with such far-reaching healthcare implications.

I enjoy working for Walmart because I have a career, not just a job. I’m not just a truck driver stuck in the driver’s seat all the time. I can get out of the truck and have a positive impact on my fellow drivers, my community and the industry. Walmart allows me to branch out and enhance my driving career through initiatives like the Store Ambassador Program, the Trucker Buddy Program and being a Road Team Captain.
As a Walmart Road Team Captain, I’m part of a seven-member team that represents the over seven thousand Walmart Drivers nationwide. It’s our job to help promote and advance the positive image of Walmart Transportation. We have a lot of varied responsibilities, such as supporting and training Walmart drivers for Truck Driving competitions on the state and national level, helping to recruit new drivers to Walmart, and participating, speaking and representing Walmart at various events. Very few companies have opportunities like this. Being involved in so many different areas allows me to help our culture, mission, and vision, and stay excited about my career, work environment and the company I work for.
I am grateful for every opportunity that I have had working for an organization that respects the individual.

I joined Walmart in an entry-level management position two weeks after graduating from college. I have since been given many opportunities for increasing responsibilities in at least eight different functions within Human Resources across multiple divisions of the company including Sam’s Club, Walmart US, Walmart International and our Corporate Home Office.
What I like most about the company is that you can personally engage in things you are passionate about and that make a difference in the lives of our associates and customers. For me, this means playing a part in the advancement of women in the organization. During my tenure in Walmart International, I had the opportunity to help design and implement Women’s Leadership Councils in each market.
Years ago, as a college senior, I knew Walmart had a reputation for offering great opportunities for people just starting their career, as well as opportunities to grow a career within the company. Here I am 21 years later, and I can say this still remains true today. We are committed to developing our next generation of Walmart.
It feels like home because so many of these people are those that I have worked with for many, many years.

I started with Walmart in June of 1981 at wonderful Store 0058 in Russellville, Arkansas at the ripe old age of 16. I worked in the store through high school and college, and then in 1990 I moved to Bentonville, where I started working with the associates at CMI as a workers’ compensation claims adjuster. I worked my way up from an hourly adjuster position to a Director of Claims overseeing all of the liability claims for the company. In 2006, I transitioned over to a relatively new division of the company, the Regulatory Compliance Division, as a Sr. Director. It was a great opportunity for me to learn more about the inner workings of the company and what it takes from a regulatory support standpoint to keep the stores, clubs and DC’s, and even home office buildings operating effectively.
Once the culture gets in your blood, it’s there forever. Where else can you go to work and one day be unloading trucks and the next buying real estate, being a lawyer, engineer, accountant, truck driver or influencing change all over the world? Your only limitation is you.
I am influenced by diverse and talented people every day. We have a seamless way of working together to help our customers save money and live better.

The launch of Walmart PRIDE: Bay Area has also inspired other Walmart offices around the globe to start PRIDE chapters in their offices.
