Injuries Among Dancers

Common Shoulder Injuries

Shoulder Dislocation:

The shoulder joint is the bodies most mobile joint, which makes it easy to be dislocated. What can casue this is falling or when a dancers arm is forcibly moved into awkard postion, while extended away from the body. Muscles spasms may occur and making the pain worse. Dancers with this injury will notice that it is easier to keep dilocating your shoulder after it already has happened.

Shoulder Impingement:

Should impingement is caused by narrowing of the space underneath the bony prcess in the shoulder. This can be casued by increase in upper extremity training by a dancer whoes rotator cuff is not in the best of conditions. Pain will be minor at first and slight loss of stregth but as time goes on the pain will progressivly become worse.
